The Beauty of Femininity

on February 25, 2014 by Jami Balmet 0 comments

If you google femininity or something similar, most of what you come across is a jumble of feminist propaganda, goddess earth worship, and how to be a seductive woman.

The world has claimed what being feminine means and twisted it into ways that are thoroughly unrecognizable from the Biblical view of femininity.

The Beauty of Femininity

Women as more powerful (intellectually and “spiritually”), women as seductresses (celebrating this!), and women as the goddesses of this earth that flow with an internal “feminine” pagan strength…that is what being feminine is to the world. Being a woman is all about spiritual power and strength, but not in a Biblical sense.

Or we hear the opposite message: that femininity is negative. In movies, the “girly feminine” character is the air head cheerleader who is concerned about her nails chipping and the how she looks. Ironically, feminism has so warped our view of what it means to be a feminine woman that the culture would have women look, act, think, and dress no differently from men.

Women don’t want to be called feminine because it draws up an image of an earthly goddess seductress or a weak, passive and identity-less woman.

This is what the world thinks of when they hear feminine. Femininity has morphed and changed over the years. Being a woman who loves her children, loves her husband and proudly manages her home was once a treasured role within our society.

Sadly the Biblcal role of being a feminine woman has faded into the background and largely been lost by the modern church. But being a feminine, Godly woman is something to be treasured.

God designed men and woman to be different, and rather than try and merge those into one role, we should celebrate our differences because it means we all become stronger and can serve God better with our complimentary gifts.

Being a Biblical woman who pursues her feminine identity from the scriptures and not from society is a thing to be treasured and taught within the church.

I’m writing a devotional book on the subject of femininity to be released this summer. So I’m curious, what does femininity mean to YOU? What is Godly femininity and what do you think the world sees as feminine?
