Setting some reading goals for the Summer

on April 27, 2017 by Jami Balmet 0 comments

I set an insane goal this year of reading two books a WEEK. Yes, two books a week which works out to 104 books in the year. I started off the year doing pretty good but I’ve gotten behind. I’m about 12 books behind my goal right now and I’ve got hopes I can catch up 😉

Summer becomes the perfect time to catch up on reading or set some new reading goals. And today I’ve got some awesome (and affordable) suggestions for you!

You see, I’ve become more of a digital reader. GASP! I never thought I would admit that. Not only am I HOOKED on Goodreads to keep track of my reading goals but I’ve been reading more and more Kindle books this year. I’m more of a traditional physical book kind of girl – but this year, over half of my reading has been on the Kindle.

Why?

Because it’s been so cheap. Reading books can really make an impact on your budget. And this year I’ve been finding more and more eBooks for free or cheap and I’ve been liking it more and more.

I use the free Kindle app for my iPhone to read the Kindle books and I’ve been loving it because:

  1. It’s saved me a ton of money this year
  2. I can still “highlight” in my book AND my highlights are able to be pulled up on my computer
  3. I have hundreds of books with me wherever I go

I’ve spent three months so far of this year nursing around the clock and having these Kindle books handy on my phone that I can read in the middle of the night has been so handy! So today, I’m going to share a few of my favorite CHEAP books you can snag this week.

10 books to read for $2.99 each

You see – there’s this crazy Ultimate Homemaking Bundle going around this week with a staggering 106 resources inside it. It’s a $2,000 value for only $30! It’s a pretty crazy deal – but the thing is – it’s also totally overwhelming. I started sorting through the resources and there are several that don’t appeal to me so I started thinking maybe this bundle wasn’t that great of a deal this year.

But then it hit me! Even if I use just 10 or so of these resources, the $29.97 price is totally worth it. So I started making a list of what books I want to read this year from the bundle and I thought you might want to take a peek. Because even if JUST these 10 resources out of 100 are interesting to you, then the bundle is well worth it!

(And if you do decide to purchase the bundle, make sure to come over and find out about a FREE live workshop I’ll be teaching next week on how to get the most out of this bundle!)

10 books for $2.99 each!

Even if you only used these 10 eBooks from the bundle, it would work out to just $2.99 a book (which is a pretty killer deal). These books on their own would normally cost $156.23!!! But snag the bundle by May 1st and get all of these 10 books (plus 96 other books, printables, and courses) for under $30.

My Summer Reading List

14 Days to Opening Your Front Door to Guests by Dana White (Normally $7.99)

Do you wish you were more comfortable offering hospitality? The biggest objection to hospitality that I get from readers is that they just can’t because their house is so messy. I love Dana’s down to earth realism that she shares on her blog, A Slob Comes Clean, and I can’t WAIT to dig into this book!!

21 Days to a More Disciplined Life by Crystal Paine (Normally $4.99)

You guys know how much I LOVE Crystal Paine! I read part of this book years ago and I’m excited to dig into it again with fresh eyes. I love how disciplined Crystal is with the things she wants to do and accomplish.

30 Days, 30 Ways for Mothers To Take Care of Themselves by Angela Henderson (Normally $49.90!!)

Okay this one looks pretty cool!! You can access to the eBook which is normally $19.95 AND you get access to the accompanying workbook which is normally $29.95!! I haven’t gone through this book yet, but it looks promising! It includes 30 ways that we can begin investing in ourselves. It looks really practical and helpful.

31 Days to Radically Reduce Your Expenses by Kalyn Brooke (Normally $7.39)

It’s been a while since I’ve read a book on finances and this one looks like it has some great, fresh ideas!! I feel like we need to reign in our budget and I think this book will be really helpful in that endeavor!

Adventures in Bible Journaling: An Extensive Beginner’s Guide to Art and Bible Journaling by Bethany Floyd  (Normally $18.97)

I’m not a traditional “Bible journaler” but I love the idea of learning more about the tools to use in Bible journaling and some techniques for making things look prettier. I can’t wait to see what this book has to offer, it sounds so interesting!!

Command Center 101: A Step-by-Step Guide to Creating a Command Center that WORKS for Your Family by Meredith LeRoy (Normally $5)

As I am actually in the middle of creating my own family command center, I am intensely curious to see what this eBook has to share. I can’t wait to find some new ideas!!

Everyday Hope: Real Encouragement for Worn & Weary Moms by Kayse Pratt (Normally $7.99)

I absolutly adore Kayse Pratt and how she brings everything back to Scripture! I can’t believe I haven’t read this new book of hers yet and I’m really excited to dig into it. I think this will be a perfect one for nursing time 😉

Matters of the Heart: a 52-Week Scripture Memorization Journey for Women by Carlie Kercheval (Normally $10)

Memorizing more Scripture is one of my goals for this year. And it’s almost May and I haven’t done any yet! I am hoping this book will give me the encouragement and some practical advice for doing so.

Your Morning Manual: A Guide & Workbook for Resetting & Maximizing Your Mornings by Emily Bredeson (Normally $15)

I’ve been working on revamping my morning routine and I’ve felt a little less motivated lately to actually get up and out of bed early. This manual looks like just the thing I need to get up, get motivated, and get going!

The SAHM Wardrobe Basics Builder by Alison Lumbatis (Normally $29)

I’ve been working the last few years on minimizing my wardrobe as best I can. But one thing still seems like a mystery to me: creating a capsule wardrobe. I think I love the idea…I just have no idea how to create one! I can’t wait to jump into this book and see if it helps.

So, what’s on YOUR reading list for this summer? Leave a comment and share!
