Keeping Christ the CENTER of Easter (And activities for young kids)

on March 10, 2016 by Jami Balmet 0 comments

Somehow, every single year, Easter sneaks up on me. Before I know it, it’s the day before and I’m picking out our Easter outfits and once again, I feel like I’ve missed some really important times to talk to my kids about the importance of Easter.

I find Christmas to be an easier season to build in moments of teaching my kids about Christ and his birth. Maybe it’s because from December 1st on – our entire nation is focused on Christmas. There are Christmas reminders everywhere, a huge tree in our living room and decorations around. It’s somehow easier to remember that we need to be focusing on Christmas and teaching our kids the true meaning.

Our Christ-Centered Easter Plan

Easter has the all important lesson of Christ dying and rising to new life – and yet, Easter seems to come and go so quietly, so quickly. Maybe it also has something to do with the day of Easter changing every year. It’s harder to keep track of?

Whatever the reason, I decided that this year I was going to make an intentional effort to focus myself, my kids, and my household on Easter and the true Christ-Centered reason for the holiday above and beyond easter bunnies, candy, and eggs.

But I’ll be honest. I’m in a really busy season of life. I’ve got four kids, three and under. My husband and I run a business together. And the everyday tasks of managing a home pretty much take up all of my extra brain power and energy at the moment. Can you relate?

Me and my boys

I really wanted to be intentional with Easter this year and come up with some fun activities to engage my little ones. But honestly, I just didn’t have the brain power to hop on Pinterest, plan out activities and fun things to do, etc. I kept it in the back of my mind in my mental to-do list that never seems to get done but slowly the days are slipping by and before I know it, Easter will be here once again and I won’t have planned anything.

Then last week, someone in a Facebook group I’m apart of shared a link to a 14 day Easter Countdown (this is my affiliate link BTW) – I headed over to check it out, clicked buy immediately, and started printing it out! This is what I’ve been looking for. So here’s what our 14 day Easter countdown looks like:

Our Christ-Centered Intentional Easter

So the 14 day Easter countdown is a printable PDF that gives you a “He Is Risen” banner that you put 14 days worth of activities and conversation starters in. What I like about it, is that you can pick and choose what activities or cards you put into the line up, so it makes it really easy to choose or throw out things that work for your family. Plus, it means you could jump in at any time – even if there are only a few days left until Easter!!

WIDE EASTER

I’m really a crafter at heart. In my pre-kids world, I envisioned doing all sorts of fun crafts with my kids and making all kinds of cool Easter decorations and things. But with four kids, the reality of life sets in and I just don’t have the capacity to be that crafty mom I always envisioned.

So I actually had a lot of fun with this project. I loved that I could just hit print and it’s all done for me (with directions)!! But I did have to do some cutting and gluing and it made me feel all crafty and spunky – and I could do it all during nap time! It was actually really fun and made me feel like a crafting-mom – which is a big WIN! 🙂

Easter fun

So what’s inside?

Easter Envelope Countdown Banner

Not only is this a cute Easter decoration that reminds us to focus on the fact that Jesus rose, its also the 14 day countdown! I have this hung on our backdoor in our kitchen so that it’s the first thing you see when you walk in the front door. I love it – and it includes envelope holes to put 14 cards inside – 1 for each day.

Easter Conversation Cards

The set comes with 10 convo cards that you can use on their own or add them to the countdown. Each one uses Scripture and questions to guide your family in a discussion of the real meaning of Easter. (This is probably my favorite part of the entire countdown!)

Christ-Centered Activity Cards

These cards are perfect if you have young kids! It comes with all kinds of activity ideas to do with my kiddos that they are going to love – and all I have to do is print the cards and follow the directions <— Which is exactly what this busy mama needs!

Having fun

One of the activities is to make resurrection rolls for Good Friday and the card includes the recipe!! This kit literally gave me everything I need to do some fun activities with my kids that are Christ-Centered. I love it!

Printable Easter Activities

These are especially fun for my young boys! We already started digging into these and my boys are loving them – especially the small coloring books! It was a huge hit!!

The activities include: mini-coloring book, an Easter scavenger hunt (this one will be fun next year when they are a little older!), a passover meal invitation (fun for older kids), a printable resurrection play set, and Easter story board game.

Easter game

I’m so glad that I found this resource this year! The kit is $7.97 but all the time it has saved me by searching these things out on my own has been well worth it. You can find out all about the kit and purchase it here

We’ve already done a few of the activities but I’m excited to jump into the full 14 day countdown on Monday the 14th! So if you want to jump in to, grab the 14 day printable pack, print it out and then use this easy tool to focus more on Christ this Easter!!
